Andrew Harvey

We had a wonderful day with Andrew Harvey. He is asking us to combine sacred practice (prayer, meditation, worship, study of the spiritual texts) with sacred activism (identifying the things that break our hearts and digging in to effect change around those things). I would love to hear how you connected what Andrew had to say with the Spiritual Gifts Study.

Andrew nailed it for me in connecting 'what breaks your heart' with serving passionately. It is a great place to start, and to begin (or continue) awakening in our very core. One of Andrew's spiritual teachers, Father Bede Griffiths, left him with three words of advice as the most important thing we can do, "strengthen your heart." We have this amazing opportunity to work together to strengthen our hearts through our spiritual practices and learning to use our spiritual gifts to effect change.

Yep, Vicki, I think Andrew shook things up this weekend. I can't wait to hear how things go in the groups this weekend. Thanks for the comment.

As if we needed any help, Andrew Harvey has breathed some real fire into our Spritual Gifts Study with his workshops/lessons this weekend. There were so many messages - for me it boils down to one key belief - that we came into this life with a purpose endowed in us by the Spirit, and it is our job, our mission, our life, to find that purpose and live it with a burning, fiery passion!

As my son would say, let's roll/bounce!

Randy, I videotaped the first service and was watching it when I got home. I was struck by the way that he's a fire and brimstone preacher who preaches our kind of message! His fire is contagious.

For me, Andrew gave nothing short of a masterful sermon. I connected with his soulful wisdom on almost every level. I believe he is the perfect prelude to our Spiritual Gifts Study. I hope we all are inspired now to find our passion and change our world for the better.

I do understand why some people were uncomfortable with Andrew's political comments. (Especially since most of the congregation applauded him for it!) But those comments seemed momentary, just a minor flash of what was otherwise a very sophisticated, dramatic, emotional, and worldly sermon about passionate activism.

I believe it was our privilege to have had Andrew Harvey speak at our church. Thank you, Mamie, for working so hard in getting him!
